The reasons for Pass Plus
When the learner driver passes the practical test he or she
immediately has access to the motorway network and can
potentially
drive unaccompanied, or accompanied by friends, in adverse weather
conditions and late at night.
Unfortunately the accident rate amongst new drivers is unacceptably
high.
Pass Plus was originally introduced in the Fife area in Scotland in a
monitored trial intended to review the potential for reducing injuries
caused by accidents. The trial was successful and the course
was introduced nationally.
The course is carried out by a fully qualified driving instructor. It
is not expensive and the Pass
Plus certificate will usually result in lower insurance premiums, so it
is worth doing even from a financial perspective.
Content of the Pass Plus course
Pass Plus aims to emphasis driving attitude as
well as practical skill. It is a six module course of driving
lessons with an instructor that includes
aspects of driving, such as motorway driving, that will not have been
covered at the learner stage and other aspects that may have only been
briefly covered.
- Town driving
- All-weather driving
- Out of town / rural driving
- Night driving
- Dual carriageways
- Motorways
The Pass Plus course is managed and conducted by a DSA approved
driving instructor such as DG Motoring who has registered with the DSA to conduct the
course.
